The term “monkeywrenching” became associated with their tactics of disabling equipment, removing signs, and disrupting projects without intending to harm people. Although fictional, the book had a significant influence on radical environmental movements and popularized the idea of direct action in defense of wild landscapes, becoming a cult classic among environmentalists and advocates for conservation.
